Expectancies and Motives as Predictors of Risky Alcohol Consumption in College Women

Abstract Despite the consequences of alcohol use, it continues showing a high incidence among college students. Besides, increasing presence women in risk patterns calls for gender-sensitive approach to design specific actions. Some variables have been analyzed as underlying consumption (expectations and motives). This paper assesses type influence both on female university consumers at different levels risk. Five hundred four were assessed using Spanish adaptations Expectancy Questionnaire, Drinking Motives Questionnaire-Revised, AUDIT. We determine unique contributions expectancies, motives, binge drinking (BD) pattern risky drinking. The percentage variance explained by is 37.7%. Negative expectancies (20.4%) are most explanatory variables, followed enhancement motives (10.4%). Interventions with should focus their negative addition addressing improvement, coping depression, conformity motives.
